PA’s Closest Elections: Who Are the Net-Zero Candidates?
As temperatures drop, and the cost of fossil fuels rises, CNEP hopes that our readers will look at some of the tightest election races in our state. Each Pennsylvania voter has influence over the control of the U.S. House of Representatives and the control of the PA Senate. Majority control in each body will depend on close races like these.
We present below our observation of the official platforms or recent voting positions demonstrated by these candidates with regard to the environment and advocacy of net zero greenhouse gas emissions. In some districts, with one or both candidates, net zero is not mentioned or a low priority – due to the conditions that the candidate perceives to be favorable. In these instances, steering to the left is likely to be the most green choice, as the Democrats tend to have a stronger net zero record. In any event, VOTE please!
Further, those so minded may add tangible support to these candidates. “Contributions” to these campaigns could be cash, volunteering or advocacy such as door to door canvassing or making phone calls.
These are the races we see as the nail-biters, based on polling margins reported by Inside Elections.com or by more informal methods at the state level by the Philadelphia Inquirer (all as of October 1, 2026)¹

Closest State Senate Races²:
The GOP currently holds 27 seats in the 50-member state Senate. If Democrats flip at least two seats they will take control of the State Senate with the lieutenant governor’s tie-breaking vote.
Finally, our message for helping reluctant prospective voters:

“Do push them if they’re close to the edge, we’re trying not to lose our heads!”
