Rebates for Low-Moderate Income Pennsylvanians

The Inflation Reduction Act offers savings for homeowners in two ways: tax credits and rebates. The tax credits have been in place for a while and have saved households money towards making their homes more energy efficient. Soon, the rebates will be available for low to moderate households to use as immediate savings. You don’t need to wait for tax day to get your money.

Pennsylvania has rebranded the rebates under the Penn Energy Savers program. Pennsylvania has the money in hand; they are just waiting for the go-ahead from the Federal government.

Currently, the rebates have to be done through a certified contractor, but they are looking at rolling out a Do It Yourself (DIY) option later. The products listed below are covered. Note that they do need to meet a certain efficiency requirement, which can currently be found on the Energy Star website. Unfortunately, the rebates are not retroactive.

Qualified Appliances and Building Materials

The percentage the rebates cover depends on your income level. For low-income households, which is below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI) the rebates cover 100% of the project costs up to the maximum limit. For moderate-income households (81-150% AMI) rebates cover 50% of the project costs up to the maximum limit. These incomes are based on the size of your household. For Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia, the values are in the table below.

In addition to rebates for individual households, there are also rebates for multifamily buildings, where at least 50% of the residents must meet the income limits in order for those projects to qualify.
